Turning Kilometres into Community
For Andrew, running started as a hobby, just a few kilometres here and there. Today, it’s his way of giving back.
More than a decade ago, he joined the TELUS team for the Sporting Life 10K. After five consecutive years, he stepped up as team captain, turning his passion for running into a powerful fundraising champion for Campfire Circle. From bake sales to raffles, the team uses simple yet effective ways to raise funds, especially during TELUS’ annual Day of Giving when their collective impact truly shines.
That drive has built more than fundraising momentum – it’s built community. TELUS’ run club now brings colleagues together each week to walk or run, fostering connection in a largely remote workplace. There’s even a little friendly competition with fundraising totals shared in company newsletters.
When asked about race day, Andrew doesn’t mention personal bests. “It’s the vibe,” he says. “You get support from the volunteers to the camp community – the whole atmosphere is so different from other races. You get to celebrate your accomplishment with others. It’s bigger than just getting your medal and going home.”
This year, Andrew is pushing himself further than ever. Alongside three close friends, he’ll complete a relay from Campfire Circle’s Toronto office to Muskoka – drawing inspiration from the campers themselves while raising more funds and creating awareness
“I want to challenge myself because I want to drive the impact of what donations do. You see what kids with serious illness go through and what they endure. For one day, I will feel only a fraction of the challenges they are continually facing.”
We are deeply grateful for champions like Andrew and the TELUS team, whose passion and leadership continue to create life-changing camp experiences for kids who need it most.
