Healing Through Happiness Across Ontario

From London to Ottawa and everywhere in between, Campfire Circle is a place where kids from across Ontario gather for a week of connection, fun, and friendship.

Here are just some of the many campers who were able to attend camp because of generous donors like you. Together with your ongoing support, we will continue to reach even more kids with cancer or serious illness and their families.

Hannah

“Camp is so fun and welcoming. It’s an amazing place. It’s like a magical island or something. You can do whatever you want. There is everything there you could possibly think of. I love the arts and crafts. This year, I made a necklace, but I didn’t get to finish it because there was so much to do. The counsellors gave me beads to take with me so I could finish it at home. When I’m at camp, I can also dress up like a unicorn any time I want to. It’s my favourite disguise. And the beds are so warm in the cozy cabins. I always pick the top bunk because I think it’s the warmest. And in the morning, I can peek through the window and wait for the sun.”

“Camp is a magical place of happiness! I am just overwhelmed and want to say a giant thank you for giving us this experience for free. I love seeing Hannah at camp—being there increases her independence and energy, I can almost see her gaining confidence. She can be shy in some environments, but not at camp!”

“My favourite camp activities are for sure waterskiing and high ropes. I love doing things I never do at home. I’ve always been really into sports so I’m all about the adventurous and exciting activities.

This year, I was in the LIT (Leader-In-Training) program and it was awesome. All the staff, counsellors, and other LITs are fun. They are good people to be around and everyone is so nice. I also like going to camp because of the diversity. There are so many kids with different backgrounds and different abilities because of their illness. I don’t see or meet different kids as much as I do at camp.

It made me feel good to know that we were role models to the younger kids. The counsellors really wanted us to do that, and it inspired me to be a leader. And I think it helped me learn to be a bit more patient with the kids and enjoy moments with them. I took some younger kids out in canoes and that definitely teaches you patience! But it also reminded me to help them love every moment and try new experiences.”

Fallon

“My three words to describe camp? Happiness. Amazing. Magical. This year, I did the high ropes with my mom for the first time. My favourite camp tradition is the goodnight song that we all sing together. When I close my eyes and think about camp, I smell fresh air, I hear my friends laughing, I see the geese running around in the field, and I feel pure joy.”

Fallon from Keswick, age 12, grade 7

“What I love most about camp is when our family is all able to see each other after our activities and hear all the great stories about everyone’s day. It was incredible to not feel so alone anymore, and to be able to share stories and connect with other families on such a different level. When I close my eyes and think about camp, I see my baby smiling bigger than ever, I hear laughter that is filled with joy, I smell the pine of the trees mixing with the wonderful food the kitchen staff cooks for us, and I feel an overwhelming sense of gratefulness and peace. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. Campfire Circle means everything to us, we truly don’t know what we would do without you. Camp is our home away from home, and for that we are so truly grateful.”
