Rainbow Lake’s Dream Machine

Have you heard of the Dream Machine? It’s a magic box at Campfire Circle Rainbow Lake where campers and caregivers write down a dream and throw it inside. Dreams like: Throw my counsellor in the lake! Everyone has to dress in PJs for breakfast tomorrow! Unicorn fairy princess parade through the dining hall!
The Dream Machine is a special tradition, and we love it because it encourages campers to let their imaginations run wild. And sometimes, it is the most moving and beautiful part of camp.
This year, we had a palliative care camper whose dream was to grow up to be a chef, but her family knew that dream would never come true. But thanks to the Dream Machine, her camp dream did come true when she was sous-chef-for-a-day in the camp kitchen, making and baking all her favourite dishes like dirt and worms (chocolate pudding with crumbled Oreos and gummy worms).
It was a special memory for her and her family that will be cherished forever.
