Bonfire Bash City Edition Raises More Than $500,000

Campfire Circle hosted its first Bonfire Bash City Edition on a balmy Tuesday November evening.

Presented by Rogers Communications Inc. and Mantella Corporation, the event gathered more than 200 guests at the Fermenting Cellar in Toronto’s Distillery District, uniting new and loyal Campfire Circle champions.

The night began with a red carpet entry, greeted by campers Alex, Brayden and Hailey. Guests were ushered into a twinkle-light-studded banquet hall, evoking summer nights under the stars, complete with camp-inspired appetizers and crudités.

Colleagues, friends and families gathered round high-top tables, much like in the spirit of camp storytelling.

In lieu of a triangle dinner bell, a blaze of fireworks lit up from the ceiling and Dr. Draw—with an electric violin performance—escorted everyone to their table for the start of dinner.

Emcee and Canadian fashion icon Jeanne Beker began the night’s proceedings. She shared with the audience her own difficult breast cancer journey and laid out the challenges that kids and families face when confronted with a diagnosis.

“You don’t know exactly what’s going on and how bad it is, or if they can treat it. It’s just awful, and you go down 5,000 rabbit holes.”

Jeanne then introduced Bonfire Bash’s co-chairs Suzanne Rogers and Sylvia Mantella who thanked supporters, shared their experiences with Campfire Circle and articulated the need for our programs.

“More than 1,000 kids were diagnosed with cancer during the pandemic, so the need is greater now more than ever. As we bring in-person programs and overnight camps back, I am more motivated to bring joy and happiness to children during their most challenging times.”

Suzanne and Sylvia worked hard to ensure the night was a success. From securing experiences of a lifetime for the live auction to filling every seat in the house—we are grateful for their contribution and commitment.

The evening continued with performances by musician Joey O’Neil and recent American Idol contestant Nicolina Bozzo who sang on stage with campers for a special rendition of Roar by Katy Perry.

The evening concluded with Brett Sherlock leading the live auction. Guests bid on four magical experiences: a haute couture trip to Paris, a rendezvous to anywhere in the world, a Vanity Fair weekend and platinum seats to four major sporting events.
