OuR Island
OuR Island Update – April 2022
We appreciate that our community would like to receive updates about what the future holds for OuR Island, and when overnight camp will be available again in this region.
As shared last summer, the OuR Island site is currently closed. A study of the location outlined that reopening will require a significant amount of work, including construction, upgrades and flood protection. In addition, we are exploring how we can enhance accessibility, so that Campers of all abilities can enjoy camp without barriers.
It is important to note that there are additional reviews and assessments still required that must happen before we can proceed further. The results of these assessments will determine our next steps and the schedule.
We are working towards restoring overnight camp capacity in Prince Edward County as soon as we can. This includes exploring temporary solutions to host overnight camps in this region for 2023, such as renting another camp location.
In the meantime, we remain committed to serving families living in the Eastern part of Ontario. To access Overnight Camp, we have increased the number of camp buses going from Ottawa to our Muskoka site, and expanded the number of Family Weeks offered at our Rainbow Lake site. As well, this spring and summer in the Ottawa area, we are offering Day Camp, Community Programs, Family Camping Trips and Teen Programs. If you would like to learn more about these program options, please contact us at info@campfirecircle.org.
We will keep our community updated as we make meaningful progress.
